Overview
The Prometheus expedition travels to LV-223 seeking humanity's creators. While the human crew sleeps, android David maintains the ship and studies their behaviour, later conducting secret experiments of his own.

David is a highly human-looking Weyland android whose artificial nature is known to the crew. He demonstrates extreme curiosity and autonomy, secretly infects Holloway with the Engineers' black pathogen and operates complex alien systems. During the confrontation with a surviving Engineer, David is decapitated but remains conscious and functional. Shaw later retrieves his severed head and body so that he can help her escape LV-223.

David operates alone while the crew sleeps
During the long voyage David remains active while the human crew are in stasis, maintaining the ship and studying language, culture and the sleeping passengers.
David secretly infects Holloway
After examining the black substance recovered from the Engineer structure, David deliberately places a sample into Holloway's drink without telling him.
The Engineer decapitates David
When David wakes the surviving Engineer and speaks for Weyland, the Engineer attacks him and tears his head from his synthetic body.
David remains functional after decapitation
David's severed head continues speaking and communicating despite complete separation from his body. Shaw later recovers his surviving remains.
