Data meets Juliana Tainer, who claims to be the former wife of his creator, only for an accident to reveal that she is herself an artificial duplicate.

Juliana has lived for years believing she is human. After an accident severs her arm, Data discovers exposed circuitry and learns from a hidden Soong recording that the real Juliana died long ago. Soong built this replacement with copied memories, normal ageing behaviour and a safety program intended to shut her down if she ever consciously discovers that she is an android.

A cave accident knocks Juliana unconscious and tears off her arm, exposing mechanical circuitry beneath an otherwise completely human appearance.
