Overview
Kryten's head explodes during a domestic argument, forcing the crew to search for replacement mechanoid heads and eventually bringing him together with a related Series 4000 unit named Able.

Kryten remains functional only as damaged parts after his head explodes. Lister and Kochanski fit replacement heads one after another, but each spare immediately explodes when the mechanoid is switched on. A rogue simulant later has Able repair the underlying defect, allowing Kryten to return to normal operation.
