Karen is revealed to have been constructed by David Elster as a replacement for his deceased wife Beatrice, explaining her unusually human presentation and stolen identity. Elsewhere, Leo and Fred retrieve Max's nonfunctional body after his fall and reunite the conscious Synths in an attempt to repair him, but the damage is too severe for him to restart.
