Cherry 2000 is built around a highly human-looking female android companion. The original Cherry unit catastrophically short-circuits after exposure to water, but her personality survives on a removable memory disk. Sam later locates another Cherry 2000 body and restores the same personality to it, providing prominent themes of android malfunction, shutdown, memory transfer, replacement bodies and reactivation.
