Overview
Technology reporter Joy Andrews is granted a week of access to reclusive roboticist David Kressen and his supposedly perfect artificial intelligence, Adam. The arrangement becomes increasingly tense as jealousy and emergent behaviour blur the distinction between scientist and machine.

The film deliberately misdirects both Joy and the viewer about which man is artificial. David initially presents Adam as his lifelike android creation. The climax reverses the setup: the person Joy believed was David is opened up and shown to contain an electronic data unit, revealing him as the artificial intelligence while Adam claims to be the real creator.
