Overview
The Martin family purchases an NDR household robot named Andrew. Over two centuries Andrew develops creativity and emotion, gains legal freedom, progressively replaces his mechanical body with increasingly human-like systems, and ultimately seeks recognition as a human being.
ASFR Content
Andrew begins as an obviously mechanical domestic robot and is repeatedly modified toward a convincing human appearance. His upgrades include a more expressive face, a completely human-looking outer body and increasingly biological internal systems. The film also includes Galatea, another NDR robot fitted with female characteristics who later receives a human-like body.

Andrew is damaged and taken for repairs
After suffering mechanical damage, Andrew is returned to NorthAm Robotics. His repair visit becomes an opportunity to request a more expressive face capable of visually reflecting the emotions he has developed.
Andrew receives a human-like body
After meeting Rupert Burns and seeing Galatea, Andrew finances new robotics work and becomes a test subject for a body design that gives him a convincingly human appearance.
Andrew replaces more of his mechanical systems
Andrew develops and installs increasingly organic artificial organs, gaining functions such as eating, physical sensation and other human biological processes as his transformation continues.
Galatea appears fully human
By the end of the story Galatea has also been transformed from an obviously mechanical NDR robot into a human-looking artificial woman.
